FAQs

How do I treat my stock tank pools water to make sure it’s clean and safe?

You will want to install a filter pump system that is typically used for small, above ground swimming pools - or have Stock Tank Haus do it for you! Running the filter pump for a couple hours a day should do the trick.

Checking the pH levels of your pools routinely is also recommended. We recommend purchasing a small floating chlorine dispenser as well. Chlorine does cause corrosion in galvanized steel - but is a necessary evil in order to swim safely.

We also recommend a small skimmer net for removing leaves and other larger debris from the pool.

Does Stock Tank Haus install the pool?

Our customers have the option of purchasing an installation package for their stock tank pool or DIYi-ng their own stock tank pool.

We can simply drill the holes into the tank, free of charge, and drop off the tank - or we can deliver and set up the filter pump for you.

A level, flat area must be existing in your yard before installation. This could be a patio, or flat space in your yard. We recommend placing the tank on a concrete or rock base.

How long will my stock tank pool last?

When used for their original intent as water troughs for livestock, stock tanks can last up to 20 years. All of our tanks are manufactured in Hastings, NE.

Hastings offers an industry leading 5 year warranty to farmers who purchase tanks from them. In comparison, most other stock tank manufacturers only provide a 1 year warranty.

Unfortunately, that warranty doesn’t carry over to the stock tank pool side of things - because they are being used for another purpose outside agriculture.

Our stock tank pool is now on it’s 4th summer without rust,. We expect to get somewhere in the range of 5-10 years without seeing signs of rust. When this happens - tanks can be repaired, or a liner is a common solution.

We choose to provide Hastings Stock Tanks exclusively because they make great tanks and we can help support a local community here in Nebraska.

How will my filter pump be powered?

You need a standard 110V outdoor GFCI outlet to plug into. Extension cords are not recommended for the long-term. We will still install your pool without a GFCI outlet, but an electrician should be scheduled to install one within 10-15ft of your pool if possible.

For an extra $30 we can provide an GFCI adapter to plug into your existing outlet.

How do I know what size stock tank pool to pick?

Our stock tank pool is an 8ft diameter round tank - and we can fit anywhere from 6-8 adults comfortably - some sitting in the pool - some sitting around. It really is big enough for most homes! 2 people can float in loungers at the same time in this size.

Then 10 ft diameter round tank will easily accommodate 8-10 adults

Can I paint my stock tank pool?

Yes, you can! We will also be offering a pool painting option soon!

There are many DIY videos online showing how other stock tanker’s have painted their pools. The key is prep and primer!

We do recommend only painting the outside of the pool. The chlorine and paint on the interior don’t mix well and can flake off. We have yet to find a product we would trust to last.

Can I bury my stock tank pool?

Burying your stock tank pool could speed up corrosion of your tank. If you’d like to do so, we recommend layering a pond liner-like material in the hole, to separate the tank from the soil.

We like the idea of wrapping a deck around the pool as a better option.

Can I turn my stock tank pool into a hot tub?

Yes, you can! We’ve seen both wood fire heated stock tanks and propane heated tanks (small camping water heater setup). We will be offering a hot tub kit in the future!
